Local Electricians Blue Mountains

Your Local, Licensed Electricians Across the Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains are not the easiest place to wire a home. Houses tend to be older, blocks are steeper, storms are fiercer, and the local network comes with rules you do not meet on the plains. When you want an electrician in the Blue Mountains who already understands all of that, Lexicon Electrical has been working across the range since 2013.

The team is fully licensed and our experienced electricians have well over 25 years on the tools between them, and every bit of that know-how goes into your job, whether it is a fault that keeps tripping the power, a full renovation rewire, or a shopfront fit-out on the Great Western Highway. From Lapstone at the foot of the range to Mount Victoria at the top, homeowners and businesses across the Blue Mountains stay with us because we turn up when we say we will, quote honestly, and leave the place spotless.

The range climbs from around 150 metres at Glenbrook to more than a kilometre up at Katoomba, Blackheath and Mount Victoria, and the housing is every bit as mixed, from heritage weatherboards to brand-new builds. Long winters push heaters and hot water systems hard, summer brings real storms, and we shape each job around the property and the pocket of the mountains it sits in.

Important Facts

We do a great deal more than hang light fittings and add the odd power point. As a full electrical and data team, our qualified electricians look after the whole electrical system, from a small repair to a whole-house rewire, a switchboard upgrade or a commercial fit-out, and we see each job through from the first site visit to the compliance certificate at the end. We work for both residential and commercial clients, and our electrical services across the Blue Mountains include:

  • Switchboard upgrades and fuse box replacements
  • Fault finding and electrical repairs
  • House rewiring and wiring repairs
  • Power point installation and repairs
  • Energy-efficient LED lighting
  • Security and sensor lighting
  • Ceiling fan and exhaust fan installation
  • Safety switches (RCDs) and safety inspections
  • Smoke alarm installation and testing
  • Hot water system and heat pump wiring
  • EV charger installation
  • Phone, data and TV cabling
  • Smart home automation
  • Surge protection and storm damage repairs
  • Renovations, extensions and new builds
  • Commercial and strata electrical work
  • Emergency electrical services

That is a starting point rather than the full list. Whatever your electrical needs, get in touch and we will tell you straight whether it is something we can take on.

How we can help?

Solid electrical work is only half the story. You also want reliable, professional service from someone who is careful in your home, works to a proper safety standard, and stands behind the job long after the invoice is paid. Our managing director, Adam Grimadell, came up through commercial project management, and that habit of planning shows on every call-out, in the neat cable runs and the tidy site we leave behind.

Every electrician we send is fully licensed in NSW, insured, and wires to the AS/NZS 3000 standard and current safety rules. You get a written quote before we lift a tool and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work once we are done, so there are no surprises on price and a clear record on safety.

Why choose us?

  • A local, family-run team: No franchise and no call centre. We live in the mountains, work in the mountains, and train up local apprentices.
  • Fully licensed and insured: Current NSW licences right across the team, the accreditations to match, and full public liability cover.
  • Backed for 25 years: We build things to last, and our workmanship carries a 25-year guarantee.
  • Straight, upfront pricing: A written quote before we start and fair rates throughout, with nothing awkward added at the end.
  • We leave it spotless: Drop sheets down, mess taken with us. The only sign we were there should be that everything now works.
  • Gear we would use at home: We only fit parts and fittings we would happily put in our own places.

Electrical Work Built for Blue Mountains Homes

Older homes and ageing switchboards

Plenty of mountains homes are decades old and still running the switchboard and wiring they were built with, long before anyone planned for ducted heating, reverse-cycle air or an EV charging in the carport overnight. We know these houses well.

We will lift a tired switchboard up to current safety standards, chase down the electrical issues behind those repeated circuit breaker trips, and replace outdated wiring so the place is safe and suits how you live today.

Wiring for a bushfire-prone area

Looking after a home on a bush block brings a few realities you never face on the flat. Across much of the region the bushfire rating counts, so it pays to use an electrician who plans for it, from weather-sealed outdoor fittings to sensible external lighting and safe wiring for pumps, tanks and sheds.

A cooler climate and harder-working systems

Up at altitude the cold stretches on, and hot water systems and heat pumps work overtime for months, so it is worth having them wired correctly and set to the right tariff to reduce energy costs. Whatever the property calls for, our electricians sort the compliance paperwork, deal with the network when the job needs it, and leave it done properly the first time.

The easiest way to start is a quick call or text to 0412 825 552, or an enquiry through our website. We will come straight back with honest advice and a free quote.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Which Blue Mountains suburbs and towns do you cover?
We work right along the ridge and through the valleys either side of it. That takes in the lower mountains around Lapstone, Glenbrook, Blaxland and Warrimoo, the mid mountains through Springwood, Winmalee, Faulconbridge, Woodford and Hazelbrook, and the upper mountains including Lawson, Wentworth Falls, Leura, Katoomba, Blackheath and Mount Victoria. If you are on a nearby acreage or in one of the outlying pockets and are not sure whether we reach you, give us a call and we will let you know.
Under NSW law, every home must have working smoke alarms installed on each level where people sleep, and they need to meet Australian Standard AS 3786. Safety switches, also called RCDs, are required under the current wiring rules to protect your power and lighting circuits, and any new or altered circuit has to be RCD-protected. If you rent the property out, there are extra obligations to keep both in working order. We can test what you have, fit what is missing, and leave you compliant.
A Level 2 electrician is separately accredited to work on the network side of your property, the part a standard electrician is not allowed to touch. The Blue Mountains sits within the Endeavour Energy network, so jobs like a new connection, an overhead or underground service line, a meter change, or an upgrade from single to three-phase power all need a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider. We can carry out that work and deal with Endeavour Energy directly, so you are not left coordinating it yourself.
As a rule of thumb, a safety inspection every few years suits most homes, and sooner if yours still has a ceramic-fuse switchboard, cloth or rubber-insulated wiring, or no safety switches at all. Warning signs worth acting on straight away include breakers that trip repeatedly, warm or discoloured power points, flickering lights and a faint burning smell. A quick inspection tells you what is safe, what is nearing the end of its life, and what can wait.
After a storm or fire event we can make the property safe, assess the damage to your switchboard, wiring and fittings, and carry out the repairs or replacements needed to get you running again. Because we issue a compliance certificate for the work we do, you have clear documentation to hand to your insurer, and if your assessor or builder needs a scope of the electrical damage, we can help with that too.
