What are some signs that I need a switchboard upgrade?
A faulty switchboard is unsafe and we recommend you avoid touching it. It’s important that you get it checked by a qualified electrician. Here are some signs your switchboard may need upgrading:
- Your switchboard keeps short circuiting. Older circuits aren’t power efficient and are prone to short circuiting. They’re also not designed to handle many appliances at the one time. After all, we’re using more electrical appliances these days.
- You have a burning smell coming from your switchboard. This is potentially very dangerous and can be a sign of an overloaded circuit or faulty wiring.
- Your switchboard uses ceramic fuses. Ceramic fuses are an old school form of electrical protection. In New South Wales, we’re no longer allowed to install them. They provide limited protection to your property and no protection from electric shocks.
- The appearance of sparks. This indicates a serious issue and we recommend you upgrade your switchboard.
What’s the cost involved in an electrical switchboard upgrade?
Switchboard upgrades in Penrith and the Blue Mountains can cost between $200 and $2,000 for the entire job. We don’t recommend getting the cheapest switchboard available as they don’t tend to last as long as higher quality products.
At Lexicon Electrical, we only use materials we trust. If we wouldn’t install it in our own home or place of business, we wouldn’t recommend it to you. All products come with a 25-year warranty.
