Yes, the chargers we fit are rated for outdoor Australian conditions. A typical unit carries an IP54 or IP55 ingress rating, meaning it is protected against dust and against water sprayed from any direction, which is plenty for a wall under an eave or behind an open carport. For units in fully exposed locations we recommend a small shade hood or weather canopy to extend the life of the charger and the cable, and we can include this in our scope of works where it makes sense for your property.

Most home chargers come with a 5-metre or 7.5-metre cable as standard, which is enough for almost every garage and carport situation. If you park more than 6 metres from the wall where the charger will sit, or if your vehicle’s charging port is on the opposite side from the unit, a 7.5-metre or 10-metre cable is worth the small extra cost. During the site visit we measure from the proposed mount point to every likely parking position and recommend the right length so your cable reaches comfortably without dragging across the driveway.

Adding a hard-wired EV charger is generally viewed favourably by insurers because a correctly installed fixed unit is safer than running a portable charger off a general power outlet.
